Speed Up PC Startup With Soluto – Anti-Frustration Software

One of the most common frustrations of every PC user is the slow startup. It’s also the main reason why a company developed a super cool software that can take away your frustration and that is Soluto, one of the fastest rising software on the web today!

Soluto is an anti-frustration software that allows you to examine your boot, discover which applications are slowing it down, and allows you to fix the problems in just a few clicks. You don’t have to be a professional to use this because the program has a user-friendly interface.

I’m sure you’re excited to speed up your Windows boot time so for us to start, download and install first Soluto (don’t worry, Soluto is free!). Once installed, Soluto will ask you to reboot your PC so it can start examining your machine. When your PC starts back, you will see a curled page at the bottom left side of your screen; that is Soluto, recording your boot process.

Once it’s done recording your boot process, it will analyze the applications in your startup list and after a little while, you’ll be then shown the result.

The applications will be sub-divided into 3 groups so you can easily determine which are essential and which apps are not.

Those applications listed under No-brainer are apps that you can remove from boot. These apps are the so-called non-essential. You can click Delay if you want to delay the launch of the apps until after reboot or click Pause if you want to launch them when you want to.

You must be careful when “pausing” or “delaying” an app. Read its description carefully and follow the “Recommendation”. Every time you remove an app, you will see how many seconds you save on the boot time process (see the screenshot above).

The next category is the Potentially removable. The apps listed under this category are for advanced users. You must be very careful when removing applications here and you must understand the effects that can happen once an app has been removed. If you’re unsure or not familiar with the apps, try to Google them first so you can have an idea.

The last category is the Required. The apps listed under this category cannot be removed because they are required for safe PC use.

Once you’re done, you can now see the final result. Look how many seconds Soluto took away from my previous boot time!

If you want to see the history of your boot process, just click the “History” button at the bottom left side beside Feedback. Since I just installed Soluto on my PC, there is no enough data yet on the screenshot.

Soluto is a great software and it can really take away your frustrations but I know some people are not yet convinced to try it because they can only save a few seconds on their boot time, but hey people, don’t you know that every second counts?

Soluto is still in beta stage and I believe that in the near future, it will be one of the most sought-after freeware on the web.

How To Enable Direct Memory Access (DMA)

What is the advantage when we enable DMA on our Windows PC?

DMA (also referred to as bus mastering) is a technique that some components and devices use to transfer data directly to and from memory without passing through the Central Processing Unit (CPU). DMA reduces CPU overhead by providing a mechanism for data transfers that do not require monitoring by the CPU. The number associated with DMA indicates the direct memory access channel that the component or device uses to transfer data to and from memory.

Without DMA, the CPU is typically fully occupied for the entire duration of the read or write operation, and is thus unavailable to perform other work.

How to enable Direct Access Memory Access:

1. Open My Computer, right-click and click Properties.

2. Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.

3. Double-click IDE/ATAPI controllers and double-click on the Primary IDE Channel.

4. Click on the Advanced Settings tab; the tab may or may not be available for each option. It is only available in Primary and Secondary Channels.

5. Set the Transfer Mode to “DMA if Available” both for Device 1 and 0 and click OK.

6. Perform the same operation for other items in the list, if applicable.

Remove Unused Programs Completely

Disable File Indexing

Indexing Services is just a small program that uses large amounts of memory and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. Why? So that the next time you do a search on your PC, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don’t search your computer often, this system service is completely unnecessary.

How to disable file indexing:

1. Go to Start and click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs and click the Add/Remove Windows Components icon on the left side of the window. This may take a few seconds to load so please be patient.

3. Look for “Indexing Service” component in the list.

4. Uncheck the Indexing Services.

5. Click Next then click Finish.

Run Disk Cleanup

Both Windows and application programs tend to leave temporary files on your hard drive, taking up space. Like in my case, I have McAfee Anti-virus installed on my PC and it always leaves a lot of temporary files when it is updating. A hard drive that is close to being “full” can cause Windows to slow down or interfere with efficient disk access and virtual memory operations.

How to run disk cleanup:

1. Go to My Computer.

2. Right-click on Local Disk (C:) and click Properties.

3. Click the Disk Cleanup button.

4. Disk Cleanup window will popup, calculating how much space you’ll be able to free on (C:). Wait for it to finish.

5. Check Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin. Click OK, then click Yes.

6. Wait for Disk Cleanup to finish cleaning your Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin.
