Apple is known to be very strict and so its devices. It will not let you transfer songs from your iPod to PC easily which makes it really annoying because you can’t backup your songs or even share it to your other devices. Good thing there are a lot of apps out there that frees your iPod, allowing you to transfer songs from it to PC without exerting too much effort. One of my favorites is iDump. Know more about it after the break.

iDump – free your iPod

iDump is a portable Windows application that lets users transfer songs from their iPod to any PC. It has a very simple interface and using it is no brainer. Just connect your iPod to PC and launch iDump.

Once your iPod is connected, iDump will automatically display all the songs stored in it allowing you to choose which ones you want to copy to your PC. But before you start selecting songs, head on to the Output Options tab first and set an output directory for all the songs that you’re going to transfer. Once done, you can go back to the main tab and start selecting the songs.

To select songs, just click the box beside the song title or if you want to transfer everything, right-click anywhere and click Select All. When you’re done choosing, click the Start Copy button on the upper-right side. If you’re not familiar with the title, just right-click on the song and click the Play button. Your default music player will open and will start playing the song.

There’s also a search bar which makes it very easy if you intend to transfer only few songs out of thousands stored in your iPod.

Another cool feature of iDump is that it imports even your Playlist. Just click the drop down box and choose the playlist you want to be displayed.

iDump may not be as feature-rich compare to other commercial apps out there but it’s still an awesome app for me. It has all the features I need for its purpose, it’s lightweight, and best of all, it’s freakin’ FREE!

iDump works well on Windows XP/Vista/7. The only downside of it I guess is that it’s not compatible with iPhone and iTouch (but for me it’s okay since I don’t own any of those).

Have you experienced logging in to one of your online accounts but it keeps on saying incorect username/password? Having numerous accounts on the world wide web is really a pain in the butt especially if you use different passwords for each. Some people record all their account credentials in their diary, while some save it as a text document on their PC so they won’t forget it, however, this is very risky because you’re exposing your confidential accounts to other people who want to steal these information. That’s why it’s still better if you use a good, secure, and reliable password management tool like Sticky Password to handle all your confidential online accounts.

Sticky Password – What is it?

Sticky Password is a form filler and password manager that stores all your login credentials in a secure, and encrypted manner. It has two versions: Free and Pro. The free version allows you to store up to 15 password accounts only and 1 online identity while the Pro version ($29.99) offers unlimited account database, unlimited identity entries, account grouping, and Bluetooth authorization.

Since we’re on the Freeware section of the blog, this post will focus on the Free version of Sticky Password.

Sticky Password – Installation

During the installation, you can already feel the security and protection that Sticky Password offers. The very first thing that it will ask you to do is to enter the Master Password which you have to remember to access your Password Database.

The second step will ask you which authorization method you would like to use to access all your password. You can choose from Password Protection, USB device, Bluetooth device (Pro version only), or no authorization which obviously is not recommended since you’re putting all your passwords at great risk!

The third and forth step will just ask you the locking time-out (how many minutes of computer inactivity before the app automatically locks) and the browser extensions you want to install. After that, you’re done! You’re now ready to protect all your login credentials in Sticky Password.

Sticky Password – How to add password accounts

To manually add an account, right-click on the Sticky Password icon in the notification area then choose Add – Account then just follow the wizard that will guide you.

Aside from password accounts, you can also use Sticky Password to add secure memos (confidential notes) and identity that can automatically fill up the online forms for you. What a great time-saver isn’t it?

If you don’t want the manual way to add accounts, I’m sure you’ll love the automatic process! Since Sticky Password automatically launches whenever you login to any website, it will ask you if you want to store those credentials you enter to its database.

It also supports multiple username and password to be saved in one account. Let’s say you have two accounts on Facebook, Sticky Password can store them both for you.

Since we’re only using the Free version, once you reach the maximum of 15 accounts, you will not be able to store password anymore in the database unless you get the Pro version which offers unlimited password accounts.

Now, every time you visit those websites stored in your database, Sticky Password will automatically fill the username and password fields for you.

Sticky Password – How secure is it?

Since we’re putting our most confidential and important account credentials in Sticky Password’s database, how will be able to know if it is really safe, secured, and protected?

Actually, Lamantine Software, the company behind Sticky Password, has been very serious when it comes to security of the app that’s why they incorporated military-grade security encryption into their software (including AES, approved as the US federal government encryption standard – FIPS 197). And since Sticky Password offers a virtual keyboard with Anti-Spy, you’re sure that keyloggers cannot identify your keystrokes every time you enter your Master Password.

Sticky Password – Is that all?

If you think we’re done with Sticky Password Free, you’re wrong! Actually, it has other great features we would like to share with you!

Sticky Password has a built-in Password Generator tool which lets you create strong passwords easily.

Going to a friend’s house and you want to bring Sticky Password with you? No problem! Sticky Password allows users to create a portable version of the app so you can take your encrypted database anywhere you go with USB portability.

Remember guys, all of the features I have shown you are all part of the Sticky Password Free! It just really proves that great things don’t always come with expensive price tags.

Piece of advice: If you have more than 15 online accounts, we highly suggest you upgrade to Pro so all your login credentials will be kept in a safe and secured place.

* Sticky Password works well with Windows XP/Vista/7. It also supports different browsers and applications such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Skype, Mozilla Thunderbird, Flock, SeaMonkey, Internet Explorer, and a lot more.

Before I end this post, here’s a mini giveaway. The 3rd and 7th commenters who will tweet/like/+1 this post will win a license key for Sticky Password Pro worth $29.99 each. The comments will be revealed on Sunday, July 31, 2011.

Uploading pictures to Facebook is just a piece of cake, but downloading them especially a whole album is really tiresome. Previously, I’ve shown you FacePad, a cool Firefox add-on that allows you to download the entire album in just 2-clicks. However, after a few months, it was shutdown by Facebook due to some issues. Luckily, I found a really great alternative to it that can help you save a lot of time and effort when downloading photo albums from Facebook.

fbDownloader is a free Windows application that saves you from the hassle of pulling all your Facebook photos by doing the traditional “right-click + save as” every time. It lets you backup and download all the precious photos from your Facebook account, photos tagged to you, or even your friends’ photo albums in just a few clicks.

To use fbDownloader, first you must download and install it on your PC. The installation process is just a bit hassle for me though. First, you’ll be asked to install different programs during the installation. However, it’s not mandatory to install them. Just click Decline if you don’t like it. After the installation, when I thought everything is alright, it asked me to download and install .Net Framework 4. I was re-directed to the Microsoft website where I downloaded the required file. After the installation of .Net Framework, at last, I was able to launch fbDownloader.

fbDownloader is very easy to use that even your grand ma can use it without any problem (believe me!). You just have to enter your email and password and once logged in, “allow” the application to access you account. That’s it! You can now choose which photos you wish to download.

As I have told you earlier in this post, you can choose to download your own photo albums, photos tagged to you, or even your friends’ pictures. You can also make the picture black & white if you want! The default download location is in the Pictures folder but you can change it to your preferred location.

See Through Windows is a simple freeware application that makes the current windows transparent, allowing you to see through it. After the installation, you can see its blueish sunglass icon sitting in the system tray. By default, the hotkey combination to enable See Through Windows is CTRL + SHIFT + Z, but you can easily change it from the Options. Just right-click on the icon and click Options.

From the Options window, you can change the transparency level and the hotkey combination.

When you want to see the underlying window/s, just press the hotkey combination. It will then make the foreground window transparent and turns it back to opaque when you press the hotkey again.

With See Through Windows, you can easily see what’s happening beneath the current window without the need to minimize it.

This is a guest post by James Adams. If you want to guest post on this blog, just drop me a message using the Contact page.

The PDF is the standard format for document sharing everywhere. When Adobe created Acrobat, it swept the world because of its ease of use. Nearly every user installed Adobe Reader onto their computers so they could read these files. Times have changed, and Adobe Reader’s installation can take up to 100+ megs with the add-ons and toolbars that it attempts to install. Here are ten alternatives to Adobe Reader.

1. Sumatra PDF [Windows] This is a one file PDF reader which values simplicity over everything else. This is a bare bones reader which has navigation tools to get around your PDF quickly and easily. This reader was designed to run off of a USB drive with a single file.

2. PDF Hammer [Web Based] PDF Hammer allows you to merge multiple files, edit the order of your PDF documents and password protect your PDF files. You can set the document information and create metadata in your files.

3. Cool PDF Reader [Windows] This light-weight reader is speedy. You can convert your PDF to EPS, GIF, JPG, BMP and more. Extract your PDFs to TXT files for easy editing. This is a no-nonsense solution for PDFs.

4. eXPert PDF Reader [Windows] eXPert Reader is a bloat-free PDF reader which lets you view and print your PDfs. You can also modify comments or outlines and insert rubber stamps. It is skinnable and fast.

5. Foxit Reader [Windows, Linux, Mobile] Foxit Reader is a very light solution to the bloated Adobe Reader. You can add comments to PDF documents, run spell checking, convert your PDFs into text files and much more. You also have the ability to edit your bookmarks and search in the PDFs.

6. PDF-XChange Viewer [Windows] With the XChange Viewer, you can add custom stamps. You can export your files to the PNG, TIF, BMP formats. You can also add annotations to your PDF files. You also have the ability to type on any PDF page.

7. Nitro Reader [Windows] Nitro Reader lets you rotate your PDF files, find text in the document and view your documents full screen. You can switch between PDFs at any time with Nitro’s tabbed viewing. You can read your PDFs in email.

8. Skim [Mac OS X] With Skim, you can view, edit, annotate, and crop your PDFs. This powerful PDF reader for Mac also lets you save your passwords with Keychain and export your PDFs as text files. You can apply bookmarks and read your files full screen.

9. Preview [Mac OS X] Mac users with OS X do not need to get more software for their PDF files. Preview allows you to view, print and edit PDFs. You can annotate, combine and add images to your PDFs.

10. Gnostice PDF Reader [Windows, Mac OS X, Linux] Export PDFs into many image formats. You also have the ability to rotate, zoom and page fit your PDFs. It is designed to be small and fit on a USB drive for portability. The program doesn’t require any registration.

There are numerous smaller and more efficient alternatives to Adobe Reader. You can choose a very basic reader like Cool PDF Reader or Sumatra, a more robust solution like Foxit Reader or PDF-XChange Reader, or something in between like the Gnostice PDF Reader. Your PDF reading is no longer limited to Adobe products.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could do many things at once? Just like ExtractNow. When you need to extract multiple ZIP or RAR archives, all you have to do is drag and drop it into the program and click Extract – that simple!

ExtractNow is a simple utility that allows you to extract multiple archives easily and quickly. It supports the two most popular archives, ZIP and RAR, and other formats too!

How to use ExtractNow:

1. Download and install ExtractNow.

2. When you need to extract archive/s, just run the application and drag and drop the files into the program and click Extract.

3. You can also adjust the settings like the destination of the extracted archives, post extractions (operations that you would like to be performed after successfully extracting the archives), enable context menu so you can easily extract files, and many more!

Take a look at these screenshots:

4. It also saves the history of your extraction operations and you can view it easily by clicking the History button.

As you can see from the above screenshots, ExtractNow has a very simple and minimalistic interface which I’m sure you’ll really like.

ExtractNow supports these file types:

zip (+jar, xpi), bzip2 (+bz2,tbz2,tbz), rar, arj, z, lzh (+lha), 7z, cab, nsis, lzma, lzma86, xz (+txz), ppmd, udf, xar, mub, hfs, dmg, compound (+msi, doc, xls, ppt), wim (+swm), iso, chm (+chm, chi, chq, chw, hxs, hxi, hxr, hxq, hxw, lit), split (+001), rpm, deb, cpio, tar, gzip (+gz,gzip, tgz, tpz), mslz, flv, swf, ntfs (+ntfs, img), fat (+fat, img), mbr, vhd, pe, elf, apm, macho, ace, sit

ExtractNow is a powerful and reliable utility program but just a reminder, it is not a complete archival solution. Its main purpose is to allow users to extract multiple archives easily.

Before I forget, ExtractNow is free and it works in Windows XP/Vista/7.

I’ve already shown you some screen capture tools in the past and this time, I’m going to show you another one. Check out Gyazo, a cool screen capture tool that instantly upload your screenshots and share it anywhere!

Gyazo is not just an ordinary screen capture tool because you can also use it to host your images. How? You’ll find out later. Right now, I’m going to show you first how to use it.

1. Download Gyazo for free. Once downloaded, install it.

* It has a version for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

2. Once installed, run the application. Your mouse cursor will be changed to a crosshair. Select the area you want to capture by dragging the mouse.

* While you are dragging the mouse, it will show you the pixel resolution of the screen area being captured.

3. When you’re done, release the mouse button and your screenshot will automatically be uploaded to the Gyazo website and the URL will be copied to your clipboard – instantly!

* As of this moment, uploaded images cannot be deleted or modified.

4. Once the screenshot has been uploaded, you can see three buttons above the image allowing you to easily share your pictures to your Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr accounts!

5. As I’ve said earlier, you can use Gyazo to host your images stored on your hard drive. Just drag and drop the images to the Gyazo shortcut/icon on your desktop and it will be automatically uploaded to the Gyazo’s server!

Gyazo is a good choice if you’re looking for an extra-ordinary screen capture tool. It makes sharing screenshot fast, convenient, and very easy!

Have you ever experienced shutting down your PC then “ooops you just realized that your USB device is still plugged in” or you left your flash drive in an internet cafe, and when you come back for it, it’s already gone. That is really frustrating especially the second scenario. So if you do not want to experience these frustrating situations, check out these tools that will remind you to unplug your USB device before shutting down your PC.

1. Flash Drive Reminder

Flash Drive Reminder is a lightweight, freeware utility that pops up a reminder if you log off Windows
without removing your flash drive. It adds an entry to the AutoPlay dialog that pops up when you insert a flash drive into a computer. If you select that entry, the application will launch.

Flash Drive Reminder has two versions:

1. Standard Version

The Standard version pops up a small window when Reminder starts. This window serves as a reminder that the flash drive is still in the computer.

Download Standard Version

2. Quiet Version

The Quiet version has no options and does not pop up a window when you insert your flash drive. All it does is pop up a reminder to remove the drive when you log off or shut down the computer.

NOTE: You will not be able to use the Windows’ safely remove hardware utility when the application is running.

Download Quiet Version

2. FlashRecall

FlashRecall will show a popup window and play a beep with the motherboard speaker (if available) when you shutdown your PC or logoff the current user without removing the USB device.

FlashRecall has a portable version which you can use when you’re in an internet cafe or somewhere else.

Download FlashRecall

Are you looking for an easy way to upload and share files, folders and screenshots to your friends and family? Localhostr Uploadr is probably the coolest application that can do this! It is a beautifully designed application that makes uploading to localhostr.com a breeze. It has a very cool interface that makes sharing files easy and fast.

How to use Localhost Uploadr:

1. Download and install Localhost Uploadr. You can also download its portable version.

* Are you using Mac? Download it here.

2. Once installed, you can now start uploading files. Just drag and drop the files in the “Uploading area”.

* You can see the status of your files in the “Uploading area”. There are 3 states: idle (not doing anything), uploading (progress of upload is visible), and error (some error has occurred). While uploading there is a cancel button to cancel the current upload.

* You can upload as many files as you want but should not exceed the 50 MB limit.

3. You can see your uploaded files in the history area.

* Each item shows the filename of the file uploaded as well as the date and time it was uploaded. Below that information there is a ‘Copy URL’ button that will copy the target URL to your clipboard and a ‘Delete’ button that will remove the item from your history.

4. You can also take screenshots easily and upload it using the application.

* You have two choices to take screenshots: Custom-drawn screenshot and Window grabbing screenshot.

In Custom-drawn screenshot, you can draw a selection rectangle by holding the mouse left button down and dragging the mouse to draw out the selection while Window grabbing screenshots lets you take screenshots of the active window.

5. You can also change the settings on the Preferences. Just click the button beside “custom-drawn” to view the Preferences/Options window.

Localhostr Uploadr is really one of my favorite file sharing applications and I really like its modern-looking interface. I just wish that they could increase the upload limit even up to 100-200 MB.
