SkyDrive for Windows and Mac

SkyDrive for Windows and Mac is definitely the easiest way to access your SkyDrive from your computer. When you install it, a SkyDrive folder is created on your PC. Everything you put in this folder is automatically kept in sync between your computers (PC or Mac) and SkyDrive.com, so you can get to your latest files from virtually anywhere. Whenever you add, change, or delete files in one location, all the other locations will be updated.

To add files, just drag and drop them to your SkyDrive folder and they will automatically be synced with the cloud. You can also easily organize your files and folders, just like any other folder!

Fetching files through SkyDrive.com

Another killer feature of SkyDrive for Windows is the ability to turn your PC into your own private cloud to browse your files and stream videos from anywhere through SkyDrive.com. This feature is great if you forget something on your home PC and need to fetch it or just copy it quickly to SkyDrive.

To use this, just install the desktop client on your computer and enable Make files on this PC available to me on my other device in the Settings. Next, login to SkyDrive.com and click your computer name below the Computers tab at the left side of the screen. You will then need to input an access code to access your remote PC. Once done, you can now view and access your PC (if SkyDrive desktop is running) from SkyDrive web interface.

The only thing missing in this app is the ability to choose which folders to sync with the computer, unlike DropBox which offers selective syncing. Another disappointment is that this app doesn’t work on Windows XP.

Lastly, for those who have previously signed up with SkyDrive, you can still enjoy your 25GB free storage but for the new users, they will only get free 7GB upon signup. That’s still more generous than the free 2GB of DropBox and free 5GB of Google Drive.

OnSay – Call your Twitter friends for free

OnSay is an Android/iOS app that lets you call your Twitter friends without a phone number for free. It has a unique and minimalistic interface that I’m sure you’ll find cute!

The good thing about OnSay is that you are not required to signup for a new account in order to use it. Upon launching the app, you’ll be asked to login to your Twitter account so you’ll be able to see your friends. Once logged in, OnSay will display all your Twitter friends under Invite tab.

Since OnSay is not really that popular and fairly new, you should not expect that a lot of your friends are using this app. To start calling your Twitter friends, you must ask them to install the app on their phones first. You can easily invite them to join OnSay by tapping their names and tweet the default invitation or you can also personalize it! Once they have installed it, their names will appear under the Friends tab.

To make a call, just press the OnSay icon below the name of your friend or by pressing the Call button. You can also block a user from calling you by pressing the Block this user button.

OnSay stores call history in the Recent Calls tab. The only downside of this app is that you won’t be able to receive a call or get notification for incoming calls if the app is closed so make sure you keep it open all the time so you won’t miss a call from your celebrity friends!

Transfer files wirelessly with these Android Apps

1. AirDroid (free)

AirDroid is probably the best WiFi file transfer app that you can find in the Market and it’s actually one of my top picks! To use it, you just have to visit the link shown in the app in your web browser, then enter the password, and you’re good to go.

This app not just allows you to transfer files wirelessly but also lets you truly enjoy your Android experience over the air. You can use it to send/receive SMS, install/uninstall applications, preview/import/export pictures, search/create contacts, play/search music.

I just noticed that it’s a bit slow when transferring files compare to the other apps, but other than that, Airdroid is really a great WiFi file transfer manager and it’s free!

2. WiFi File Transfer (free, Pro version costs $0.99)

WiFi File Transfer is the simpler version of AirDroid. It doesn’t have that beautiful web interface but it’s very fast when transferring files. Same with AirDroid, you just have to visit the link shown in the app, enter the password (this feature can be disabled), and start managing your files over the air.

As I said earlier, WiFi File Transfer’s web interface is not as visually appealing as that of AirDroid’s but it’s easy to use as well. You just have to remember though that the free version doesn’t allow users to upload files larger than 4MB. You can purchase the Pro version for only $0.99 and transfer huge files without any problem.

3. Android Manager WiFi (free)

Android Manager WiFi is more advanced compare to the first two apps above. It lets you manage your device’s data easily and wirelessly sync with your PC via WiFi technology including contacts, messages, photos, video, music, applications and calendar.

In order to use it, you need to install first the Android Sync Manager WiFi on your PC and the Android Sync WiFi Manager Agent on your Android phone. (Yup! It’s not browser-based)

One of the unique features of this app is synchronization which lets you automatically or manually synced items including contacts, calendar, camera, or other files every time you connect your device to your PC.

4. SwiFTP

SwiFTP is an Android app that will make your phone function as its own server, allowing you to connect and transfer files wirelessly to your Android phone. With this app, you can browse your phone’s files just like a regular folder on your PC.

5. File Expert (free)

File Expert is an advanced file manager/WiFi file transfer app that lets you manage your files and other resources which are stored in your Android phone and tablet. Just like the other apps above, you can use it to share your files to your friends over WiFi network. It has a nice-looking web interface and a gallery that lets you view pictures stored in your device.

Aside from being a great WiFi file transfer manager, you can also use it to do simple things such as copy, paste, move, and rename files and folders, access various cloud storage including Dropbox and Box.net, uninstall/backup apps, view compressed files, and a lot more!

File Expert is free to download and supports rooted devices as well.

InstaMusic

Though the developer says that he doesn’t want users to compare his app with the Zune Music Player, it’s still hard not to since it seriously looks the same and in fairness, it’s one of the best Zune-style music players for Android I’ve seen.

The app lets you browse your library by songs, albums, artists, genres, and playlist which are arranged under separate tabs. You can just slide from left to right or vice versa to transfer to other tabs.

InstaMusic also supports fetching artist images so every time you listen to a song, the background shows the image of the artists but this requires an internet connection though.

The app’s main interface looks so simple and doesn’t have a lot of buttons on it. Like in the Zune Music Player, the player controls are near the bottom of the screen and tapping the album art will reveal the shuffle and repeat buttons. You can also see the next three songs below the title of the current song so you don’t have to guess what’s the next song to be played.

Another nice thing about InstaMusic is that it comes with its own lock screen so you can quickly control the player upon unlocking the phone. The lock screen looks pretty cool, with the artist’s image as the background, player controls on the top left corner, and the time and date at the bottom.

You can also customize the background of the main library by using your own photos.

InstaMusic, sure is a great replacement for the Android stock music player but I discovered a serious bug while I was using it. I noticed that every time I receive a text or whenever the notification sound plays (even for other apps), the music plays automatically which is a bit irritating. I’ve read a lot of reviews in the Android Market experiencing the same issue but there are others who don’t experience it. I just hope that the dev will fix this asap.

Currently, InstaMusic doesn’t have a widget so I’m still stuck with the stock music player widget but let’s just hope that it’s one of the future plans of the dev as well.

The game has 15 new levels that will surely keep you entertained for hours! Personally, I find this version more interesting and fun to play than the original, probably because of the colorful props used here.

Funny, Silly and Weird Android apps

1. Crack Your Screen

This app puts a crack on your screen so you can prank your friends. To use it, just shake your phone and your screen is cracked. Shake it again to repair it.

2. Pimple Popper

If you enjoy pricking or squeezing your pimple then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one but for me, this game is quite awful.

3. Paper Racing

The goal of the game is to finish dragging off a roll of toilet paper in as fast as you can. The concept is really shallow but in fairness, the game is pretty fun to play when you’re really really really bored.

4. Brush Your Teeth

This app will teach your kid the right way to brush their teeth and will show them the effect of drinking softdrinks and eating chocolates  on their teeth.

5. Finger Slayer

This game is entertaining and exciting at first but gets really boring just after 5 minutes of playing.

6. 1poo3

Mad at someone? This app can make you feel better by throwing poo to your enemies’ faces.

7. Slap The Baboon

Who wants to slap the Baboon’s butt? Anyone?

8. Hair Plucker

From the same creator of the awful and silly Pimple Popper, here is another silly app, Hair Plucker.

9. Power Puker

Just look at the screenshots below so you would know why it became part of the list.

10. Fart Sound Board

Never heard of a fart? This fart machine app will create different funny and weird fart sounds for you. Sounds stupid but it’s fun to use when you’re with friends.

The apps included in GetJar’s December Gold Apps Catalogue are displayed in a horizontal scrollable list which is pretty cool if you’re using a touchscreen device such as tablet or smartphone. If you’re using a laptop or desktop, you can just use your right and left arrow keys to scroll.

Brothers In Arms 2 has just been released in Android Market last December 5 but it already reaches almost 1 million downloads in less than 30 days! This game lets you step onto the most intense and explosive battlefields of WWII as you take on missions in 5 locations from the Pacific to Sicily, jumping inside a variety of vehicles along the way.

There are 50 missions to complete and you can use 8 different weapons including the bazooka, sniper rifle and flame thrower – and a selection of clothes, med kits and more with Dog Tags found in missions or by purchasing Medals.

Brothers In Arms 2 is using stunning graphics and realistic 3D environment and characters, making the action more lifelike as you dive and duck from cover to cover and assault the enemy. Just make sure you have enough space on your memory card as this game takes more than 250MB of space.

Good thing with today’s modern technology, one doesn’t have to spend a lot to listen to their favorite tracks. They just have to visit Last.fm or Grooveshark and then search for the music they want to hear. But if you’re looking for a cheap free and legal way to download songs, I recommend you check out AudialsOne, the real all-in-one software for your video and music needs.

AudialsOne 8

AudialsOne is a very cool Windows application that allows you to download unlimited music – completely free, ultra-fast, and most importantly, it’s totally legal! I’ve already tried a lot of music applications before but honestly, this is the first time that I see something like this. It can do a lot of things like radio streaming, record music from online sites, download videos online, convert songs and videos to the right format, watch or listen to podcasts, and remove DRM copy protection.

AudialsOne – installation, usage, and features

Installation of AudialsOne is a breeze and I didn’t experience any problem during the setup. However, when I launched the app, I was quite overwhelmed with what I saw. The app’s interface at first glance is really confusing because of the buttons and options scattered around but after a few minutes of playing with it, I got myself familiar to it.

Looking at the upper left side, you’ll see there 7 tabs which have different functions.

Audials One - Radio

Listen to your favorite radio stations and record music of your favorite genre, those are just some of the things you can do at the Radio tab. AudialsOne has a lot of radio stations from different countries to choose from!

You can even schedule recordings so you don’t have to stay up late just to record your favorite radio show.

You can record continuously if you really enjoy the songs being played by the radio station or let the app record and cut songs for you. You can also automatically convert it to your desired file format.

The quality of the recorded songs depend on the signal of the radio station. So far, most of the songs I recorded are in good quality.

Audials One – Search

Next to the Radio tab is the Search wherein you just have to enter a keyword (i.e. title of song or name of artist) and AudialsOne will search social radios and websites for your inquiry.

If there’s a lot of items in the search result, you can use the filter box so you can easily find the song you want to record/download.

AudialsOne – Wishes

Wishes is actually one of the coolest features of AudialsOne wherein you can enter the title of the song or name of the artist and then it will scan thousands of radio stations and automatically record the songs in your wishlist once the app found it being played.

AudialsOne – Capture

If you enjoy listening to Last.fm or Grooveshark, AudialsOne can record all the songs you’re listening to and save them in any format you want. In addition, it rounds out each track with a full complement of ID3 tags, cover artwork and even lyrics—all automatically retrieved from the internet!

Aside from that, you can also use it to capture YouTube videos, or videos from other sites, record video on your screen, and record audio from the output of your sound card.

It supports a lot of file formats and it can even be a good substitute for the media converter you’re using now – that’s how powerful it is!

I really appreciate it that AudialsOne has an organizer as they probably know that users will have a hard time organizing their collection/media files once they started recording songs and videos. But unfortunately, I find the organizer a bit complicated to use.

AudialsOne – bonus features

Aside from the great features I mentioned above, AudialsOne also allows you to import or export media files from your cloud storage like SkyDrive, MP3Tunes, TunesBag, or from your gadgets connected via USB.

You can also use it to burn songs to CD or create a ringtone for your phone!

Surprisingly, AudialsOne even with its numerous features, still feels very light to use and works flawlessly even on my netbook! It’s fast, effective, and produces an excellent sound quality. It’s really an amazing application that music lovers have been wanting for forever. Now you don’t have to be a Paris Hilton or a Mark Zuckerberg to complete your music collection.

Cut The Rope is actually one of the first games I searched when I bought my HTC Desire HD last March but unfortunately, it was not yet available at that time. I first played it on my gf’s iPhone and from them on, I couldn’t stop playing it every time we’re together.

The object of each of the game’s numerous levels is to manoeuver a piece of candy into the mouth of a cartoon monster, called Om Nom, and also to pick up up to three stars per level by touching them with the candy. The candy hangs by one or several ropes which the player can cut with a swipe of their finger, and can also be manipulated through other objects such as bellows. Other objectives include keeping the candy within the box and/or avoiding spikes and electricity.

There’s no really big difference between the Android and iOS version of the game except for the price; iOS version costs $0.99 while the Android version is free but Ad-supported. Currently, Cut The Rope is not yet available on the Android Market but you can download it now from GetJar. Cut The Rope is now available on the Android Market and as a web app!
