Those who know me well, know that I’m really interested in gadgets but not with cameras. I have a smartphone, a tablet, a laptop, but I never had my own camera. Well, before, it was my dream to buy a DSLR but when I got my HTC Desire HD, I stopped dreaming about it since my phone can take decent photos with its 8-MP camera. So when the peeps from Pixel Pro invited me to write a review for Samsung NX11, I was really hesitant at first. Good thing I know some friends who can help me with the review and the best thing is that they do not require a solid professional-type of review.

Samsung NX11

Samsung NX11 is a mirror-less camera with an electronic viewfinder, interchangeable lenses, and a 14.6 megapixel image sensor, that gives the image quality of a DSLR but with a more compact size. It has a solid build quality and surprisingly light weight compared to other cameras I’ve used.

For a beginner like me, I find it quite easy to use and has all the features I need but for my other friends, they find this camera very basic.

Samsung NX11 – i-Function

One of the most exciting features of the Samsung NX11 is the i-Function. At first, I didn’t know what is it for but after doing some research I found at that this button allows you to quickly change the settings without having to use the screen on the back of the camera, letting you change settings with the camera held up to your eye.

Aside from taking great pictures, the Samsung NX11 also allows users to record the music in the background as you take picture. There’s also a Panorama Mode that lets you create amazing, widescreen shots by simply pressing the shutter button in Panorama Mode while moving the camera in the direction you want. There’s a progress bar on the screen that tells you when you’ve reached the maximum width.

Lastly, Samsung NX11 captures HD movies in 720p resolution and H.264 advanced video compression format. It has an HDMI port that allows you to connect the camera to your high-def TV and enjoy watching all your videos on a bigger screen. (Unfortunately, there’s no HDMI cable included in the package so you need to buy a separate one in order to use this feature)

I can’t say anything bad against this camera since I was able to use it for a few days only. But for my friend, Karin, she doesn’t seem to like it a lot. Here’s what she has to say about the camera.

I tried to shoot in 2 different settings, morning and evening. Morning shoot is ok really depends on your settings, but there are so many areas in motion blur. During the evening when I set my ISO to 2000 and above, you know what it gets, a lot of noise not unless you use the flash. Now I set my ISO to 1000-1600, then set the aperture to 3.5 or 4. then manually set the the shutter speed, safest exposure is in the middle, where the 0 is (sorry not really good with the photography terms). Anyway, I wanted to see the quality of the photos I took, so I transferred to my computer, I noticed the difference if you view it through your computer screen and with the Samsung LCD display; photo looks perfectly fine on the Samsung camera screen but not my computer display, so many areas in motion blur, and noises. Samsung NX11 still needs a lot of work when it comes to its features.

Too bad I still can’t afford to buy this camera as a gift for her. Yes, the camera is really good but it comes with a hefty price tag as well. Samsung NX11 is available in all Pixel Pro branches for only Php 39,999.
