Rapportive is a popular Gmail add-on that replaces Gmail ads with contact info about the sender. It immediately shows you what people look like, where they’re based, and what they do by scanning their email on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more. How to use Rapportive

To use it, simply install the add-on on your browser (Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari) and once done, you just need to link it to some of your online accounts e.g. Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. Once finished, head to Gmail and start composing a message.

The moment you enter the email address in the “To:” field, just like what you normally do, Rapportive will look up the contact by scanning various various social networking sites, and then display a host of information on the individual in the right-hand side bar replacing the Gmail ads.
