Meme: Twitter-like Micro-blogging Service From Yahoo!

Posted by

I know some of you already know Meme. It’s like Twitter but it’s from Yahoo!.

Meme is a light-blogging platform from Yahoo! focused on quick multimedia posts that can be easily spread with one-click reposts. Users can easily read, post, and repost content through Meme.

Here are the features of Meme which most of them are cloned from Twitter:

  • It supports text, photo, video and audio posts
  • It has repost feature that allows users to re-publish and share content with one click
  • You can follow other Meme users
  • You can use tags like <b>, <i> and <blockquote> to give more style to your posts
  • It uses OAuth to authorize your application to access the content they produce

Would you like to try Meme? Here’s how:

1. First you must have a Yahoo! account. If you don’t have, create one here. If you have, sign in here with your Yahoo! account.

2. Create your Meme account. Just enter a title, your preferred URL, description, and picture. When you’re done, click Next.

3. You’ll be shown some recommended Meme users and it’s up to you if you want to follow them or not.

4. You’ll now see your very own Meme dashboard.

6. If you posted something and you want to delete it, just click the “trash” icon beside your post.

7. Other Meme users can also comment on your posts by clicking the “comment” button.

8. What’s cool about Meme is that you can mention Twitter users in your posts by inserting “@Twitterusername”. If you want to mention a Meme user in your post, just insert “/Memeusername”.

9. You can also change your theme/background just like in Twitter. Just go to Settings and click Themes.

10. You can see the popular memes by clicking the “Popular” link on the menu.

* Memes are like the “tweets” in Twitter.

11. If you want to repost a meme, just click the “repost” button.

* The number below the button shows you how many times the meme has been reposted.

12. Add some style to your meme with these tags <b>, <i>, <blockquote>.

Style Your Meme

Overall, Meme is a good alternative for Twitter or if you want, you can use them both! I find it very fast and stable and posting stuffs like photos, videos and even audios is just a click of a button. I’m just not sure if there is a character limit in Meme because it’s still posting my updates even if it’s more than 400 characters unlike Twitter which only has 140-character limit.

Meme is probably better than Twitter in terms of the number of functionalities it offers but in terms of popularity, Yahoo! will really have a hard time convincing the Twitter users to transfer to its micro-blogging site. And the question now is “will Meme become the next Twitter?”.
