List Of Online Virus File Scanners

Virus is really a major problem for every PC users. It can be found almost anywhere and they’re just waiting for the right time to attack your PC! So it’s always a good thing to have a good anti-virus installed on your PC so that you are always protected. But wait, what if your anti-virus messed up and you can’t use it now and then you found a suspicious file on your PC. What should you do? You can scan it with online virus file scanner!

Check out these websites that offer this kind of service for free.

1. Kaspersky Virus File Scanner

Kaspersky is one of the most popular and most trusted anti-virus today and it’s a good thing that they offer this free online virus scan for us.

Just browse for the file that you want to scan and click “Submit” and it will automatically be uploaded from your computer to a server where it will be scanned using Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Only one file of up to 1 MB can be checked so if you have several potentially suspicious files, you can check them one after the other, or create an archive file (in zip, arj or similar format). The archive should not be larger than 1 MB.

2. VirusTotal

VirusTotal is an online virus scanner that analyzes suspicious files and facilitates the quick detection of viruses, worms, trojans, and all kinds of malware detected by antivirus engines.

You just have to browse for the file you want to scan and click “Send File” and just wait for the scan to be finished.

And here’s the result! You can also print out the results if you want.

There are also other ways to send files to VirusTotal:

A. You can send it via email.

Create a new message with scan@virustotal.com as destination address of your email.

a. Write SCAN in the Subject field.

b. Attach the file to be scanned. Such file must not exceed 20 MB in size. If the attached file is larger, the system will reject it automatically.

c. You will receive an email with a report of the file analysis. Response time will vary depending on the load of the system at the time of placing your request.

B. You can use the VirusTotal Uploader

You can download VirusTotal Uploader that enables you to directly send files from your system using the context menu.

3. Jotti’s Malware Scan

Jotti’s malware scan is a free online service that enables you to scan suspicious files with several anti-virus programs.

Just browse for the file you want to scan and click “Submit file” and it will be uploaded and shared with anti-virus companies so detection accuracy of their anti-virus products can be improved. There is 15 mb limit per file.

Please bear in mind that these online virus file scanners are not substitute for any anti-virus software installed in your PC, as it only scans individual files on demand. It does not offer permanent protection for the user’s system either.
