Having your own PC is a great way to keep all your private files secured and protected because you’re sure that you’re the only one who uses it. Do you agree? Hopefully not!
Having your own PC doesn’t give you an assurance that your confidential files are protected. Why? Because there are some people who will do everything to get those files, especially when you’re not around. That’s why if you have a lot of private files that you want to hide from your wife, it’s very important to use a privacy protection software like IObit Protected Folder to keep your personal data safe from prying eyes and data theft.
Protected Folder is a Windows application designed to password-protect your folders and files from being seen, read or modified by others. It’s just like a vault or a safety box wherein you just have to drag and drop the files you want to hide into the program and it will automatically be locked and protected so no one can see it!
The only thing I don’t like about IObit Protected Folder is the installation process wherein it will ask you to install numerous programs but fortunately, you have the option to reject it.
After the installation, it will ask you to set a password. You can also add a hint to help you remember the password just in case you forget it.
Once you’re done with the 1-time setup process, you’ll now be able to add files into the program. You can drag and drop any files and folders you want to protect.
You can access all the locked items right within the program and if you wish to unlock an item, it will automatically be placed back to its original folder or location.
You can also set the lock options based on your preferences (this feature is cool for me).
If you want to show the locked files on your desktop but you don’t want anyone to access it, you can do that by turning off the Hide option and leaving the Deny Read Access and Deny Write Access both On.
However, please remember that the settings that you will choose will be applied to all the contents in the Protected Folder and you can not set different settings for each files.
Once you close the program, it will automatically lock your files and keep them protected. When you open it again, you’ll be asked to re-enter your password.
All in all, I can say that Protected Folder is a pretty decent application that works as advertised. With the price tag of $19.95, I could say that it’s worth it especially if there are a lot of hidden gems on your computer that you wish to hide. With IObit Protected Folder, you will feel more confident to leave your PC open even when you’re not around. Just make sure that no one (including your wife) knows your password.
* Protected Folder works well on Windows XP/Vista/7.
