Easy Way To Share Files And Collaborate In Real Time

Posted by

Are you looking for an easy way to share you files to your colleagues? Drop.io is here to help you!

Drop.io is an easy to use, online collaboration and file sharing service that provides users with a simple, real time and private way to chat and share images, video, audio, documents and other digital content through unique, user-created and controlled sharing points called ‘drops.’

Let me teach you the basics. First, you need to learn how to create your drop:

1. If you are using Firefox, I recommend you to install the Drop.io Firefox add-on so you can create drops in just two clicks! With this add-on, you can also drag and drop files onto your browser, making it a lot easier for you to upload files!

2. Once the add-on is installed, you’ll see the Drop.io icon on your status bar. You can create a new drop by clicking on the icon, and click “Create new drop”.

3. You will then be directed to your new private drop. Insert your password and your e-mail address if you want to change important settings in the future.

Now that you know how to create you drop, next thing you need to learn is how to add files on your drop:

1. To start adding files to your drop, just drag and drop files onto your browser (if Drop.io add-on is installed).

2. If the add-on is not installed, you can still add files by clicking the “Add” button.

Now that you know how to add files on your drop, next thing you need to learn is how to share your files to your friends and colleagues:

1. Right-click on the file you want to share. Click “Link”. Copy the link and send it to your friend and it will direct them to the download page.

What is Hidden Link?

You can use hidden link if you want to share a file to your friend but you don’t want them to know the name of your drop. For more info, click here.

2. You can also send files from your drop to your friends via e-mail. Right-click on the file you want to send. Click Send to –> Email Recipient. Type the e-mail address of your friend and add a short message if you want. Click Send.

3. You can also send files from your drop to other existing drop. Right-click on the file you want to send. Click Send to –> Existing Drop and type the Drop Name of your friend. Click Send.

* It will only work if that drop allows guests to ‘add’ files.

Now that you know the basics, you can start sharing files to your friends easily and more convenient with Drop.io!

Here are some few things you might want to know:

1. You can personalize the name of your drop so you can remember it easily. Go to Settings –> Under Maintenance box, click Rename Drop. Here you can change the name of your drop.

2. You can edit what permissions you want your guests to have (if they can add files, comment, re-order files, chat, and download) in the Guest Permission box. Go to Settings –> Guest Permissions and edit your settings.

3. You can chat with your guests and do simple web-based real time presentations. For more info, check out this video.

4. The maximum size per drop is 100 mb (FREE, create as many drops as you want!). You can also upgrade your drop to get more space, management and functionality!

5. You can also use Drop.io from your Y! Mail. It allows you to attach large files of up to 100 mb per e-mail! Check it out on your Y! Mail Applications pane.
