If you are using Firefox, there is an add-on that makes a smaller copy of your pictures before you upload or attach it on your e-mail.
Shrunked Image Resizer, once installed will ask you if you want to resize your photos when it detects a JPEG Image. With this add-on, uploading and attaching photos will be a lot faster!
