Sticky Password – What is it?

Sticky Password is a form filler and password manager that stores all your login credentials in a secure, and encrypted manner. It has two versions: Free and Pro. The free version allows you to store up to 15 password accounts only and 1 online identity while the Pro version ($29.99) offers unlimited account database, unlimited identity entries, account grouping, and Bluetooth authorization.

Since we’re on the Freeware section of the blog, this post will focus on the Free version of Sticky Password.

Sticky Password – Installation

During the installation, you can already feel the security and protection that Sticky Password offers. The very first thing that it will ask you to do is to enter the Master Password which you have to remember to access your Password Database.

The second step will ask you which authorization method you would like to use to access all your password. You can choose from Password Protection, USB device, Bluetooth device (Pro version only), or no authorization which obviously is not recommended since you’re putting all your passwords at great risk!

The third and forth step will just ask you the locking time-out (how many minutes of computer inactivity before the app automatically locks) and the browser extensions you want to install. After that, you’re done! You’re now ready to protect all your login credentials in Sticky Password.

Sticky Password – How to add password accounts

To manually add an account, right-click on the Sticky Password icon in the notification area then choose Add – Account then just follow the wizard that will guide you.

Aside from password accounts, you can also use Sticky Password to add secure memos (confidential notes) and identity that can automatically fill up the online forms for you. What a great time-saver isn’t it?

If you don’t want the manual way to add accounts, I’m sure you’ll love the automatic process! Since Sticky Password automatically launches whenever you login to any website, it will ask you if you want to store those credentials you enter to its database.

It also supports multiple username and password to be saved in one account. Let’s say you have two accounts on Facebook, Sticky Password can store them both for you.

Since we’re only using the Free version, once you reach the maximum of 15 accounts, you will not be able to store password anymore in the database unless you get the Pro version which offers unlimited password accounts.

Now, every time you visit those websites stored in your database, Sticky Password will automatically fill the username and password fields for you.

Sticky Password – How secure is it?

Since we’re putting our most confidential and important account credentials in Sticky Password’s database, how will be able to know if it is really safe, secured, and protected?

Actually, Lamantine Software, the company behind Sticky Password, has been very serious when it comes to security of the app that’s why they incorporated military-grade security encryption into their software (including AES, approved as the US federal government encryption standard – FIPS 197). And since Sticky Password offers a virtual keyboard with Anti-Spy, you’re sure that keyloggers cannot identify your keystrokes every time you enter your Master Password.

Android Screenshots and Screen Capture or a.k.a. Ashot is a great tool designed to take screenshots and record screencasts of your Android device easily. You just have to connect your phone to your laptop/desktop via a USB connection and voila! You can now view your phone’s screen on your desktop.

Another great feature of Ashot is that it can automatically capture screen for you. All the screen changes of Android will be captured and saved on your desired folder. To do this, you just have to click the Start Capture button and when you’re done, just click it again. However, if you just want to take a single screenshot, just click Save Screenshot.

You can also control and adjust the size and orientation of the screen. You can view it in landscape, zoom in and zoom out, or just the actual size.

See Through Windows is a simple freeware application that makes the current windows transparent, allowing you to see through it. After the installation, you can see its blueish sunglass icon sitting in the system tray. By default, the hotkey combination to enable See Through Windows is CTRL + SHIFT + Z, but you can easily change it from the Options. Just right-click on the icon and click Options.

From the Options window, you can change the transparency level and the hotkey combination.

When you want to see the underlying window/s, just press the hotkey combination. It will then make the foreground window transparent and turns it back to opaque when you press the hotkey again.

With See Through Windows, you can easily see what’s happening beneath the current window without the need to minimize it.

KShutdown is an advanced shut down utility for KDE, Linux, and Windows. It allows you to set the exact date and time you wish to shut down your computer just like the sleep mode on televisions.

Aside from “shut down”, you can also choose other actions like lock screen, restart, hibernate, sleep, and logout.

You also have the option to display the progress bar so you always know the remaining time. The progress bar is conveniently located at the upper most part of your screen.

KShutdown may not be that useful or should I say “a real must-have” unless you’re the type of person who always forget to shutdown your computer but I still recommend that you download it and keep it for emergency purposes.

KShutdown is a very simple tool but for me, it rocks! It has a portable version for Windows and installer version for both Linux and Windows.

VisiPics is an awesome tool that lets you find duplicate images on your PC faster than most of the commercial products out there. It applies five image comparison filters in order to give you a more accurate result.

VisiPics may look very confusing when you use it for the first time; You’ll see a lot of buttons and options but after a few minutes of studying how it works, I then realized that I only need to use some of the buttons in the program.

To start using VisiPics, just launch the application and choose the folders you want VisiPics to scan for duplicate images. Use the filter slider to specify the degree of filtration. Once done, click the Play button to start scanning the specified folders.

* If you choose the strictest setting, it will look for tiny differences to consider the images distinct, while the looser you set the restriction, the program will look for greater amount of differences which can result to an inaccurate result.

All detected duplicates will be shown side by side with information such as file name, type and size being displayed.

From here, you can then decide which picture you want to keep and which one you want to delete. If you want to automate this process, it has the auto-select mode which let you choose if you want to keep the higher resolution picture, space-saving file type, smaller file size or all of the above.

VisiPics is really a must-have tool if you want to save space on your hard drive and to speed up the process of finding duplicate pictures on your PC. It supports a lot of image formats like JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, RAW image file and more! And the best of all, it’s for free!

BatteryBar provides you with a very accurate estimate of how much time is remaining on your battery by keeping its historical data. Once it has been installed on your PC, you can now view detailed information about the status of your battery; very far from what the Windows battery meter can give you!

When you’re running on battery, BatteryBar shows the percentage bar in green, yellow, or red, depending on how much battery power is remaining. The bar displays the time left on your battery in Hours:Minutes

When charging, the percentage bar is shown in blue to indicate charging, and the estimated time to full charge is shown. The bar turns black and shows “On A/C” when fully charged.

BatteryBar may not give you an accurate battery life prediction when you use it for the first time but just keep on using it and you’ll be shown with a more accurate information as it continues to keep a history of how long it takes for your battery to charge and discharge.

BatteryBar can be downloaded for free for Windows. If you like it or if you’re not satisfied with its features, you can upgrade to the PRO version which warns you when you’re battery is on a critical level, customizable themes, and  a lot more for only $7 for a lifetime license!

TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times and asynchronous copy to speed up the file transfer. It lets you pause and resume file transfer and in case there has been a copy error, it will try to resolve it for several times but if it will not work, it will just skip the file without terminating the entire transfer.

TeraCopy is very simple to use. Just drag and drop the files or folder you want to move or copy into the TeraCopy interface then choose your desired location.

During my testing, it was able to copy a 1.45GB file to my external hard drive in less than 8 minutes with an average transfer speed of 3.4 MB/s. You’ll appreciate TeraCopy more if you’re transferring really huge files.

Another way to transfer files using TeraCopy is by right-clicking on the file you want to copy/move and choose TeraCopy then select the target folder. That simple!

TeraCopy can replace the standard Windows Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you to work with files as usual.

TeraCopy is free for home users and it has a portable version which you can download directly from their website.

doPDF installs a virtual PDF printer driver so that it will be very easy for you to convert documents to PDF files. To use the virtual PDF printer, just open the document you want to convert or launch your web browser to convert emails or websites to PDF. Now, choose the Print option or press CTRL + P (this shortcut key works on most applications). Select doPDF from the list of printers and press Enter.

A new window will open asking you where do you want to save the PDF, and other options. Once you’re done, just click the OK button and your PDF will be ready in a few seconds.

Another way to convert documents to PDF is by using the doPDF startup window. Just launch doPDF (go to Start -> All Programs -> doPDF). Once launched, browse the document you want to convert and click the Create button. That easy!

Just a reminder to everyone, doPDF is a PDF converter not a PDF reader. If you need to open PDF files, you can try Foxit Reader or Adobe Reader (both freeware).

If you are looking for a cheaper or free solution to the Microsoft Office Suite, then perhaps this list of seven cheaper alternative office productivity tools can help you. All of these alternatives feature a number of different features that make each product nearly identical to the Microsoft Office Suite.
