Having a lot of online accounts is sometimes a pain in the ass especially if you have different username/password for each account. I remember before, I was typing all my account information in Notepad and then just saving it on the Desktop just so I could remember all of them. But I know that this is very risky that’s why I do not recommend it to anyone! Instead, you can use a secure password management tool such as Sticky Password or the elegant, Ever Password to take care of all your confidential information.

Ever Password – store and sync your credentials on cloud server

Ever Password is a cross-platform password management tool that you can use to manage all your confidential information such as credit cards, bank accounts, membership details, online accounts, IDs, and more! The application uses the special 256-bit encryption technology in order to keep password and other information safe from being hacked.

Ever Password – how to use it

Upon launching the app, you’ll see a welcome screen wherein you can click the Sign Up button to create an account. Registration is free and it takes less than 2 minutes to finish.

Once you’ve successfully created your Ever Password account, it’s now time to type in your login details to enter the vault where all the information are stored.

Ever Password has this elegant and easy to use interface that resembles the look and feel of an iPad/iPhone. It has 4 different tabs: Vault, Settings, Dashboard, and Information.

Under the Vault tab is where you can manage all your account information. It has different categories so all the details you will enter are well organized. Let’s say you would like to enter your credit card information, just click “Credit Card” in the categories and then click the “Plus” button. The good thing about Ever Password is that every category has its own form already which you just need to fill up.

Unlike other free apps, Ever Password offers unlimited records which means you can store as many accounts you want for free!

Ever Password – access anywhere

Another advantage of using Ever Password is that all the details you store here are sync on its website where you can also access your vault.

In addition, it also syncs your password to all your devices where Ever Password is installed. Currently, it is available on iOS, Windows, and Mac and soon on Android, Windows Phone, and Blackberry.

NOTE: You do NOT have to sync the password to the server if you feel uncomfortable with keeping your data online. Just enable the “Standalone Mode” and all passwords will be stored in the local devices only (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad etc.).

Last week, I’ve got an emergency call from my cousin. She said that “Pinky” was in great danger and I’m the only one she knew that could help her. And when I asked her what’s the problem with “Pinky”, she said that it has been infected with Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen. Yes, “Pinky” is her beloved notebook.

Since I’m not that familiar with that virus, I searched it on Google first and then I found out that Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen is a fake virus that only appears when your PC is infected with XP Internet Security 2010 (my cousin’s version was 2012, some says they have the 2011 version).

XP Internet Security is a rogueware that uses such invented threats to make you scared and panic about your PC’s security.

Once computer is infected with this fake application and you try to browse some Internet website, XP Internet Security 2010 keeps displaying fake notifications claiming that your system is infected with Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen. The warning states that your private data (passwords, credit card details, etc.) might be stolen. However, this warning is a total lie. Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen was only designed to scare people into thinking it’s a dangerous infection.

Your PC will become totally useless once you got infected. You can’t open your browser and any other applications. When you try to install anti-malware programs, XP Internet Security will just block it and it will keep on popping up different false system security threats that will re-direct you to a website wherein you have to pay for a full version of the program to remove those infections. However, NEVER BUY IT! It is a scam and rogueware are totally useless and sometimes can cause danger to your computer.

Going back to Pinky, the first thing that came into my mind was to install Malwarebytes which is the best tool for me to get rid of these kind of malwares. However, I forgot that she wasn’t able to install any applications on her infected notebook. So I searched again and luckily I found this great forum which really helped us a lot!

Here’s what my cousin did:

1. Download Rkill.exe and Malwarebytes.

Rkill.exe, for everyone’s information, is a portable tool that is designed to terminate active malware processes allowing you to use other removal tools.

2. Once downloaded, run Rkill. Immediately after running Rkill, install Malwarebytes.

There will be no problem installing Malwarebytes this time because Rkill has already stopped the malware.

3. Launch Malwarebytes. Before scanning your PC for infection, update it first. Once the update is done, full scan your PC and remove the detected threats afterwards.

That simple!

WARNING: This rogue application may come from various misleading websites that’s why you must be very careful when surfing the web. I also recommend that you install WOT (Web Of Trust) add-on so you always know if a certain website is a safe place to visit or not.

It is known for its good antivirus software that gives your PC a complete protection against viruses, worm, and other harmful threats. However, if you’re just looking for a basic antivirus that can protect your PC without any costs, you can download “PC Tools AntiVirus Free”.

With PC Tools AntiVirus Free, you are protected against basic cyber threats attempting to gain access to your PC. Don’t risk going online without protection. Dangers include contracting malware or getting your identity stolen.

PC Tools AntiVirus Free Features:

1. Antivirus and Antispyware – protection from known viruses, worms, Trojans and other threats while defending against spyware, adware, bots, keyloggers and other malware

2. File Guard – monitors for and blocks known malware in real-time

3. Browser Defender Toolbar – warns you about unsafe or phishing websites

4. Email Guard – guards your PC against spyware and viruses being sent or received via email

If you’re using your computer a lot to surf the web, I do not recommend you to download this antivirus because it doesn’t have a complete internet security like Firewall which can defend against cybercriminals seeking to gain access to your PC. However, if you’re just a normal PC user – this one is right for you!

Another free antivirus that you can try is the Microsoft Security Essentials.

Download PC Tools AntiVirus Free

NOTE: If you have other antivirus installed on your PC, you might want to uninstall it first. It doesn’t mean that if you have 2 or more antivirus installed on your PC, you’re more protected against harmful threats.

If humans and some animals must be vaccinated, it’s also a must to vaccinate your PC and USB if you want to protect it from different threats like viruses and spyware. Viruses and other threats can easily infect your USB and PC because the Microsoft Windows Operating Systems use the AUTORUN.INF file from removable drives which is widely criticized by the security community because it is used by malware in order to spread by infecting as soon as a new drive is inserted in a computer.

AUTORUN.INF is used in order to know which actions to perform when a new external storage device, such as a USB drive or CD/DVD, is inserted into the PC. The malicious files silently attack the PC as soon as the drive is mounted.

Good thing there is Panda USB Vaccine, a free utility that can help us vaccinate our PC and USB.

How does Panda USB Vaccine vaccinates your Computer:

It disable AutoRun completely so that no program from any USB/CD/DVD drive (regardless of whether they have been previously vaccinated or not) can auto-execute.

How does Panda USB Vaccine vaccinates your USB:

It can be used on individual USB drives to disable its AUTORUN.INF file in order to prevent malware infections from spreading automatically. It permanently blocks AUTORUN.INF file, preventing it from being read, created, deleted or modified. Keep in mind that USB drives that have been vaccinated cannot be reversed except with a format.

Are you worried that your PC may not be fully protected by your anti-virus? Do you spend a lot of money for an anti-virus that you thought will protect your PC from any viruses or spyware?

We know that every PC needs a good anti-virus to prevent viruses, spyware, and other malicious software from attacking it. But it doesn’t mean that we should spend a lot of money for an anti-virus because there are many cheap anti-virus out there that works better than the expensive ones. There are also free anti-virus out there that provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, etc., like the Microsoft Security Essentials.

Well maybe some of you are a bit shock to hear that Microsoft is offering a free anti-virus to every Windows user but it’s actually true!

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) like every other anti-virus works quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your PC without any interruptions.

What are the minimum system requirements for Microsoft Security Essentials?

Operating System: Genuine Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3); Windows Vista (Gold, Service Pack 1, or Service Pack 2); Windows 7

For Windows XP, a PC with a CPU clock speed of 500 MHz or higher, and 256 MB RAM or higher.

For Windows Vista and Windows 7, a PC with a CPU clock speed of 1.0 GHz or higher, and 1 GB RAM or higher.

VGA display of 800 × 600 or higher.

140 MB of available hard disk space.

An Internet connection is required for installation and to download the latest virus and spyware definitions for Microsoft Security Essentials.

Internet Browser:

Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.

Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or later.

Microsoft Security Essentials also supports Windows XP Mode in Windows 7. For more information see the system requirements for Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

MSE will be a good choice for those who want to have a good anti-virus yet doesn’t eat a lot of disk space since when it’s installed, it only consumes about 11 mb of space.

Note: Before you install MSE on your PC, make sure that you uninstall first your current anti-virus so that there’ll be no conflict on your PC.

Do you think your computer is infected with Malware? Maybe some of you are unsure of it so let’s define first, what is Malware?

Malware, short for malicious software, is software designed to infiltrate a computer without the owner’s informed consent. Malware includes computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, crimeware and other malicious and unwanted software.

source: Wikipedia

Actually, Malware is really scary once it enters our PC. Even some of the most popular and expensive Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware can’t detect and remove this. And do you know that by just visiting some websites, your PC can already get infected by Malware. So if you receive a warning when you’re visiting a Porn site (because porn sites are notorious for having extremely lethal malware!), just try to visit another site.

So how do we know if our PC is already infected with Malware?

1. Check if your computer is at its usual speed or is it slowing down. If your PC has slowed down recently and you didn’t install any programs, there’s a high chance that your PC is infected with Malware.

2. Open your web browser and check if the correct homepage shows up. Many Malware programs will automatically change your homepage to a high risk and questionable website.

3. Check if you are seeing pop up ads or display warnings that convince you to download a particular software even when you’re not connected in the internet. Since Malware is installed in your hard drive it can run anytime even when you close your internet connection.

If you have one of those signs of Malware infection, you should download a good Anti-Malware like Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware because having an Anti-Virus is not enough to protect your PC from these threats.

Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware is considered to be the next step in the detection and removal of malware. It monitors every process and stops malicious processes before they even start. The Realtime Protection Module uses the advanced heuristic scanning technology which monitors your system to keep it safe and secure.

And the good thing about Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware is that it’s a freeware! So remember, when your computer becomes infected, Malwarebytes can provide the needed assistance to remove the infection and restore the machine back to optimum performance.

How can we prevent Malware from infecting our PC?

1. Do not download programs/software in an untrusted websites. Cnet is a good site to download safe, trusted and spyware free software.

2. Run a good Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware.

3. Do not visit suspicious websites especially those that are reported as an attack site.

You can also check if your PC is infected with virus by getting a free online virus scan:

1. F-Secure Health Check

2. ESET Online Scanner

Note: F-Secure Health Check and ESET Online Scanner requires:

1. Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6™ or later, ActiveX and Javascript enabled.

2. Windows XP, Windows Vista 32-bit

3. Processor: Intel Pentium III 600 Mhz (minimum)

4. Memory: 256 MB of RAM (minimum)
