SkyDrive for Windows and Mac

SkyDrive for Windows and Mac is definitely the easiest way to access your SkyDrive from your computer. When you install it, a SkyDrive folder is created on your PC. Everything you put in this folder is automatically kept in sync between your computers (PC or Mac) and SkyDrive.com, so you can get to your latest files from virtually anywhere. Whenever you add, change, or delete files in one location, all the other locations will be updated.

To add files, just drag and drop them to your SkyDrive folder and they will automatically be synced with the cloud. You can also easily organize your files and folders, just like any other folder!

Fetching files through SkyDrive.com

Another killer feature of SkyDrive for Windows is the ability to turn your PC into your own private cloud to browse your files and stream videos from anywhere through SkyDrive.com. This feature is great if you forget something on your home PC and need to fetch it or just copy it quickly to SkyDrive.

To use this, just install the desktop client on your computer and enable Make files on this PC available to me on my other device in the Settings. Next, login to SkyDrive.com and click your computer name below the Computers tab at the left side of the screen. You will then need to input an access code to access your remote PC. Once done, you can now view and access your PC (if SkyDrive desktop is running) from SkyDrive web interface.

The only thing missing in this app is the ability to choose which folders to sync with the computer, unlike DropBox which offers selective syncing. Another disappointment is that this app doesn’t work on Windows XP.

Lastly, for those who have previously signed up with SkyDrive, you can still enjoy your 25GB free storage but for the new users, they will only get free 7GB upon signup. That’s still more generous than the free 2GB of DropBox and free 5GB of Google Drive.

Upon launching the app, you’ll see a welcome screen wherein you can click the Sign Up button to create an account. Registration is free and it takes less than 2 minutes to finish.

Once you’ve successfully created your Ever Password account, it’s now time to type in your login details to enter the vault where all the information are stored.

Ever Password has this elegant and easy to use interface that resembles the look and feel of an iPad/iPhone. It has 4 different tabs: Vault, Settings, Dashboard, and Information.

Under the Vault tab is where you can manage all your account information. It has different categories so all the details you will enter are well organized. Let’s say you would like to enter your credit card information, just click “Credit Card” in the categories and then click the “Plus” button. Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger for Windows is an app that lets you chat with your Facebook friends without the need to go to the Facebook.com. In addition, this app also shows you the latest updates from your friends in ticker and gives you quick notifications about what’s happening on your Facebook profile.

Using Facebook Messenger makes you feel that you’re still viewing it in a web browser without the newsfeed. There’s an option to dock it at the right side of the screen so you can do other things like doing your report while checking the latest updates from your friends in ticker.

It’s also very fun and easy to chat with multiple friends using Facebook Messenger since it uses tabbed chat interface. However, the app doesn’t support group chat yet and the video calling as well so you still have to open your browser just in case you want to use any of these features.

Sticky Password – What is it?

Sticky Password is a form filler and password manager that stores all your login credentials in a secure, and encrypted manner. It has two versions: Free and Pro. The free version allows you to store up to 15 password accounts only and 1 online identity while the Pro version ($29.99) offers unlimited account database, unlimited identity entries, account grouping, and Bluetooth authorization.

Since we’re on the Freeware section of the blog, this post will focus on the Free version of Sticky Password.

Sticky Password – Installation

During the installation, you can already feel the security and protection that Sticky Password offers. The very first thing that it will ask you to do is to enter the Master Password which you have to remember to access your Password Database.

The second step will ask you which authorization method you would like to use to access all your password. You can choose from Password Protection, USB device, Bluetooth device (Pro version only), or no authorization which obviously is not recommended since you’re putting all your passwords at great risk!

The third and forth step will just ask you the locking time-out (how many minutes of computer inactivity before the app automatically locks) and the browser extensions you want to install. After that, you’re done! You’re now ready to protect all your login credentials in Sticky Password.

Sticky Password – How to add password accounts

To manually add an account, right-click on the Sticky Password icon in the notification area then choose Add – Account then just follow the wizard that will guide you.

Aside from password accounts, you can also use Sticky Password to add secure memos (confidential notes) and identity that can automatically fill up the online forms for you. What a great time-saver isn’t it?

If you don’t want the manual way to add accounts, I’m sure you’ll love the automatic process! Since Sticky Password automatically launches whenever you login to any website, it will ask you if you want to store those credentials you enter to its database.

It also supports multiple username and password to be saved in one account. Let’s say you have two accounts on Facebook, Sticky Password can store them both for you.

Since we’re only using the Free version, once you reach the maximum of 15 accounts, you will not be able to store password anymore in the database unless you get the Pro version which offers unlimited password accounts.

Now, every time you visit those websites stored in your database, Sticky Password will automatically fill the username and password fields for you.

Sticky Password – How secure is it?

Since we’re putting our most confidential and important account credentials in Sticky Password’s database, how will be able to know if it is really safe, secured, and protected?

Actually, Lamantine Software, the company behind Sticky Password, has been very serious when it comes to security of the app that’s why they incorporated military-grade security encryption into their software (including AES, approved as the US federal government encryption standard – FIPS 197). And since Sticky Password offers a virtual keyboard with Anti-Spy, you’re sure that keyloggers cannot identify your keystrokes every time you enter your Master Password.

If you think we’re done with Sticky Password Free, you’re wrong! Actually, it has other great features we would like to share with you!

Create An Account

In order to use Puush, you need to create an account first. You can do that once the app has been installed on your computer.

Once you’ve created your account, you’re now ready to use Puush! The first thing you need to do is to go to Settings and change the hotkey combinations to your liking. If you’re already comfortable using the default hotkeys, you don’t need to change it.

Taking Screenshots

To take screenshots, you just need to press the hotkey combinations you set, then automatically, the screenshot will be uploaded to Puush’s server. Once the upload is finished, a balloon from the notification area will popup notifying you that the upload is complete! The short URL is then automatically copied to your clipboard.

By default, Puush doesn’t save a copy of the screenshot to your hard drive, however, you can change this setting so you can also have a local copy of the image.

Upload Files

One of its killer features is the ability to upload any files not just your captured images. To do this, just click the hotkey combinations for upload file (default: CTRL+SHIFT+U) then choose the file you wish to upload. Once done, you’ll be given a short URL that you can use to share it with your friends. You can also use the hotkey combinations when you’re in Windows Explorer to quickly upload selected files.

You can easily track your recent upload history by right-clicking on the Puush’s icon located in the notification area.

Puush Online Account

You can also access your captured images or uploaded files online by logging in to your Puush account. From there you can delete captured images, move to Private folder, etc.

Puush’s Limitations

Puush has two versions: Free and Pro. The free version has an upload limit of 20 MB per file size and its total account storage is up to 200 MB only while the Pro version has a maximum upload limit of 250 MB per file size and an unlimited storage. The Pro version costs only $15/yr.

Android Screenshots and Screen Capture or a.k.a. Ashot is a great tool designed to take screenshots and record screencasts of your Android device easily. You just have to connect your phone to your laptop/desktop via a USB connection and voila! You can now view your phone’s screen on your desktop.

Another great feature of Ashot is that it can automatically capture screen for you. All the screen changes of Android will be captured and saved on your desired folder. To do this, you just have to click the Start Capture button and when you’re done, just click it again. However, if you just want to take a single screenshot, just click Save Screenshot.

You can also control and adjust the size and orientation of the screen. You can view it in landscape, zoom in and zoom out, or just the actual size.

fbDownloader is a free Windows application that saves you from the hassle of pulling all your Facebook photos by doing the traditional “right-click + save as” every time. It lets you backup and download all the precious photos from your Facebook account, photos tagged to you, or even your friends’ photo albums in just a few clicks.

To use fbDownloader, first you must download and install it on your PC. The installation process is just a bit hassle for me though. First, you’ll be asked to install different programs during the installation. However, it’s not mandatory to install them. Just click Decline if you don’t like it. After the installation, when I thought everything is alright, it asked me to download and install .Net Framework 4. I was re-directed to the Microsoft website where I downloaded the required file. After the installation of .Net Framework, at last, I was able to launch fbDownloader.

fbDownloader is very easy to use that even your grand ma can use it without any problem (believe me!). You just have to enter your email and password and once logged in, “allow” the application to access you account. That’s it! You can now choose which photos you wish to download.

As I have told you earlier in this post, you can choose to download your own photo albums, photos tagged to you, or even your friends’ pictures. You can also make the picture black & white if you want! The default download location is in the Pictures folder but you can change it to your preferred location.

Downloading process is pretty fast and the pictures do not have any loss in quality which is really nice.

fbDownloader is really an immense time-saver for downloading Facebook photo albums. So simple and easy to use, and lastly, it’s free!

Let’s bring back the Personalize option. To do this:

• You need to download and install the Personalization Panel.
• Once installed, you’re supposed to see the the Personalize option when you right-click on the desktop. However, I still can not find it. If it happens to you too, just look for the Personalization Panel folder in Drive C: or wherever you saved it and double click Personalization.exe to launch the program.

• To change the wallpaper, click Desktop Background.
• You can also use Personalization Panel to personalize the theme, sounds, window color, and screen saver.

Do you know other programs or other tricks to change the wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition? I’m about to include Oceanis in this post however, my anti-virus detected a malware when I tried to install it that’s why I prefer not to include it just to be safe.

Since I’m not that familiar with that virus, I searched it on Google first and then I found out that Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen is a fake virus that only appears when your PC is infected with XP Internet Security 2010 (my cousin’s version was 2012, some says they have the 2011 version).

XP Internet Security is a rogueware that uses such invented threats to make you scared and panic about your PC’s security.

Once computer is infected with this fake application and you try to browse some Internet website, XP Internet Security 2010 keeps displaying fake notifications claiming that your system is infected with Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen. The warning states that your private data (passwords, credit card details, etc.) might be stolen. However, this warning is a total lie. Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen was only designed to scare people into thinking it’s a dangerous infection.

Your PC will become totally useless once you got infected. You can’t open your browser and any other applications. When you try to install anti-malware programs, XP Internet Security will just block it and it will keep on popping up different false system security threats that will re-direct you to a website wherein you have to pay for a full version of the program to remove those infections. However, NEVER BUY IT! It is a scam and rogueware are totally useless and sometimes can cause danger to your computer.

Going back to Pinky, the first thing that came into my mind was to install Malwarebytes which is the best tool for me to get rid of these kind of malwares. However, I forgot that she wasn’t able to install any applications on her infected notebook. So I searched again and luckily I found this great forum which really helped us a lot!

Here’s what my cousin did:

1. Download Rkill.exe and Malwarebytes.

Rkill.exe, for everyone’s information, is a portable tool that is designed to terminate active malware processes allowing you to use other removal tools.

2. Once downloaded, run Rkill. Immediately after running Rkill, install Malwarebytes.

There will be no problem installing Malwarebytes this time because Rkill has already stopped the malware.

3. Launch Malwarebytes. Before scanning your PC for infection, update it first. Once the update is done, full scan your PC and remove the detected threats afterwards.

That simple!

WARNING: This rogue application may come from various misleading websites that’s why you must be very careful when surfing the web. I also recommend that you install WOT (Web Of Trust) add-on so you always know if a certain website is a safe place to visit or not.
