I already have this Acer Aspire One notebook with Windows 7 Starter Edition for almost a year now and I never change its wallpaper since I bought it. However, when I decided to change the wallpaper today, I couldn’t find the option. I remember I’ve seen it before when I right-click on the desktop, then the Personalize option was there where I can easily change the wallpaper. However, that feature is not available anymore probably it disappeared after I reformat my notebook. Well anyway, good thing there’s an easy way to change the desktop wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition and I’ll share it with you after the break.

Let’s bring back the Personalize option. To do this:

You need to download and install the Personalization Panel.

Once installed, you’re supposed to see the the Personalize option when you right-click on the desktop. However, I still can not find it. If it happens to you too, just look for the Personalization Panel folder in Drive C: or wherever you saved it and double click Personalization.exe to launch the program.

To change the wallpaper, click Desktop Background.

You can also use Personalization Panel to personalize the theme, sounds, window color, and screen saver.

Do you know other programs or other tricks to change the wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition? I’m about to include Oceanis in this post however, my anti-virus detected a malware when I tried to install it that’s why I prefer not to include it just to be safe.

Do you want to know what will be the weather condition today, tomorrow or the next day but you’re too busy to watch the weather forecast or read the latest weather updates on the newspaper? Don’t worry because I’m going to show you something that I’m sure you’ll really like!

YoWindow is a cool weather monitoring application that gives you animated real time weather reports whether you are in the U.S., or in the Philippines, or anywhere in the world.

If you’re working in an office or a cubicle with no windows, you’ll find this application really helpful because there’s no need for you to look outside just to know the weather on your location. YoWindow gives real time cloud coverage, rain/snow, fog and even thunderstorm!

YoWindow, once installed, can also be set as your default screensaver. It also shows the temperature in the notification area.

YoWindow also allows you to add as many locations as you want. The software will then download the weather data for those locations and display accordingly.

YoWindow has a free and paid versions. The free version gives you weather forecast of up to 3 days while the paid version can give you up to 6-9 days. It works perfectly on Windows, and now, on Mac OS too!

With YoWindow, you bring with you your personal weather forecaster anytime, and anywhere you go!

Microsoft Scalable Fabric is a cool software from Microsoft Research that gives a cool minimize/maximize effect for Windows. Instead of minimizing the window, Scalable Fabric will actually shrink it with a nice smooth effect and will be pushed at the side of your desktop. You can easily determine the window you want to maximize because each of them has a thumbnail. I know you’re excited to try it on your PC so I’m going to show you now how to use it. Check this out!

How to use Microsoft Scalable Fabric:

1. Download Scalable Fabric from the Microsoft Research website.

* You’ll be surprised to see that the program is only less than 1 MB.

* It works with XP/Vista/Windows 7

2. Once downloaded, install the program. Click Start –> Click Microsoft Scalable Fabric.

3. You’ll see a new icon in your system tray and that’s the icon for the Scalable Fabric.

4. Try to open a folder/program and minimize it and you’ll see a nice effect. When you minimize several windows, they will stack themselves at the side of your screen, but you can still see them clearly. When you hover over the shrunk window, the name of the window will be displayed.

5. When you first used the program, you’ll hear a sound effect every time you minimize/maximize a window. You can disable it by right-clicking on the Scalable Fabric icon in your system tray and click Configure.

Scalable Fabric is an awesome tool if you want to see a nice minimize/maximize effect for your Windows PC. This is also a great tool to impress your friends and family!

After using Windows XP or Vista for a long time, you might find the logon screen a bit boring. Maybe sometimes you wish if you could change it. But what if I tell you that there is a freeware that lets you do that? Believe me guys, there is!

LogonStudio is a free program that allows users to change their Windows Vista and XP logon screens. It comes with several logon screens to choose from, along with thousands that are available online from Web sites, such as WinCustomize.com.

If you download LogonStudio for Windows XP, it includes an editor for creating your own logon screen. Yes, you can make your own logon screen! You can customize everything from background to letterings to buttons. Vista users can create logon screens using images on your PC.

Here’s how your regular Windows XP and Vista logon screen look like:

But after using LogonStudio:

Are you amazed? Those are just few examples! There are more logon screens that you can choose from in WinCustomize.com.

Personally, I really enjoy using LogonStudio because it is so simple and easy to use. You don’t have to be a Geek to use this. I recommend this to everyone who wants to change the look of their Windows logon screen.

Download LogonStudio
